Kim Derrick

President-Barbados Association of Georgia (BAOG)

Kim Derrick is a powerhouse community leader, cultural champion, and proud daughter of Barbados whose passion for service, heritage, and empowerment fuels everything she does. As the Interim President of the Barbados Association of Georgia, Kim is dedicated to strengthening community bonds, uplifting the next generation, and preserving the vibrant culture and traditions of Barbados within the Georgia diaspora.

But Kim’s influence doesn’t stop at civic engagement — she’s also a celebrated artist whose voice and presence have shaped Caribbean music for decades. Known throughout the region and abroad as the “Queen of Caribbean Soul,” Kim began her musical journey at just 7 years old, singing in school choirs and mastering dance and performance from an early age.

Her breakout came in 1988 when she won the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition, setting the stage for a storied career spanning soul, pop, jazz, reggae, calypso, and soca. She quickly became a standout in Barbados’ cultural scene — joining premier calypso tents, fronting influential bands like Chocolate Affair and Full Swing, and scoring international hits including the chart-topping “Congo Juice” that dominated airwaves in New York and Trinidad.

Kim has shared stages with legendary artists, toured extensively across North America and the Caribbean, and even brought her glorious sound to high-profile events — from cultural showcases to celebrity celebrations. Her dedication to her craft led to the creation of Virtuosity Soul Entertainment Inc. and upcoming Virtuosity TV, platforms through which she continues to write, perform, produce and inspire music that resonates with audiences of all ages.

In 2022, Kim brought her creative fire to Atlanta, releasing her project “I Am Kim Derrick” and reaffirming her status as both a seasoned entertainer and a dynamic cultural force.

Today, as President of BAOG, Kim Derrick stands at the intersection of culture, community, and creative expression — inspiring pride, connection, and progress among Barbadians and friends of Barbados in Georgia and beyond.
